She remains awed by the power of birth and motherhood, and feels privileged to provide healthcare and education to women throughout their childbearing years.

Laura lives in Burien with her husband, two teenage sons and two cats. She enjoys reading, gardening, walking early in the morning with her friends, and exploring the beach at low tide.

    Biography

While traveling in Africa, Carol was asked to help a woman in a jeep who was in labor. Carol was 27 years old, educated with degrees in psychology, premed, and anatomy and physiology, but had no idea what to do to help the woman or her baby. From that moment, Carol started the path to become expert in being skilled to help women anywhere in the world with the universal woman experience of childbirth and safe passage.

Carol received her BS in Nursing from the University of Washington and her MS in Nursing with specialty in Midwifery from the University of Miami. Since graduation, Carol has worked with women and birth all over the United States, and with people from cultures all over the world. In Tuba City, Arizona, while in the U.S. Public Health Service, she assisted women of Navajo and Hopi descent. In Miami, she helped women from all over the Caribbean basin—predominately Cuban, Haitian and Latina. In Eastern Oregon, Carol founded a midwife service which cared for rural residents and migrant farm workers. She also cared for a rural population in upstate New York. In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan—where there was a record 300 inches of snow (!)—she had the lovely opportunity to work with the largest population of Scandinavian people in the United States.

Carol is now back in her beloved Seattle and has been most fortunate to have joined this vibrant midwife group practice to care for the diverse multi-cultural population of South King County. In any one day, The Midwives at VMC often sees families from many countries around the world. Carol has kept her promise to herself to care for and help women from everywhere to have a safe, joyful pregnancy, childbirth, and mothering experience.

Amy loves being a midwife. She enjoys sharing knowledge with women and their families, and helping them make the best choices for themselves. She likes supporting and guiding women through the unique, exciting and sometimes scary experience of labor.

Amy has two fantastic children, both born at home with a midwife. She enjoys lots of family time, travel, and fine cooking.
