Dr. Varghese is the director of the thoracic surgery program at Harborview Medical Center and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Scope Of Care: Benign and malignant disease of the lungs, esophagus, chest wall and mediastinum; thoracic trauma; and minimally invasive applications for general thoracic surgery.

Research Interests: Thoracic surgical outcomes and quality of care research using population-based data, cost and utility analyses and patient-derived outcomes; application of surgical simulation in the training of cardiothoracic surgeons in advanced surgical skills; surgical education; and clinical trials in general thoracic surgery.

Teaching Interests: He is an associate program director of the cardiothoracic surgery residency at UW, and is dedicated to the education of medical students, residents and fellows. He is also a core faculty member of the Institute of Simulation and Interprofessional Studies (ISIS).
