Tips for Preventing SIDS

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden death of an infant under 1 year of age that remains unexplained. It is also known as crib death.

In the United States about 7,000 babies die of SIDS every year. Most researchers now believe babies who die of SIDS are born with one or more conditions that make them especially vulnerable to stresses that occur in the normal life of an infant.

Although researchers cannot point to a specific cause, these steps may help prevent SIDS:
