RENTON, WA - Valley Medical Center (VMC) is once again a “Best Place to Work in Healthcare,” and the only Medical Center selected from Washington State, as awarded by Modern Healthcare magazine. This marks the fourth consecutive year that VMC has been named to the publication’s prestigious list of best places to work in the nation.

The “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” program collects information from both the employer and employees and is open to all companies (providers, suppliers, payers) with at least 25 employees. This year, companies were ranked by size according to the number of US employees: small (99 or less), medium (100 – 999), large (1,000+). VMC, which has over 2,500 employees, submitted a comprehensive company profile made up of 83 questions that summarized the public hospital district’s sick leave, vacation and holiday accruals, as well as describing its remarkable medical and dental benefits, tuition reimbursement, communication strategies and employee recognition and events program.

Subsequently, 400 VMC employees were randomly selected to answer confidential 72-question email surveys. Eight topics were rated on a five-point scale from “Disagree Strongly” to “Agree Strongly.” Topics included Leadership & Planning; Corporate Culture & Communications; Your Role at the Organization; Your Work Environment; Your Relationship with your Immediate Supervisor; Training & Development; Pay & Benefits; and Miscellaneous Policies & Benefits. A minimum 40 percent response rate was required to be considered for the list.

“We have had a banner year being named to “Best Places to Work” lists,” said Rich Roodman, Valley Medical Center CEO. “The Modern Healthcare honor is particularly gratifying to us, as it ranks healthcare companies across the U.S. We work very hard to be a Best Place to Work, and to receive national recognition is truly remarkable.”

Specific rankings of the “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” will be announced at a gala awards ceremony on October 18 in Chicago.
