Valley Medical Center: The Gold Standard

VMC Recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as “Washington’s Best Workplace” in the Extra Large Company Category

RENTON, WA - Valley Medical Center (VMC) won gold at last night’s prestigious awards ceremony honoring the Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2011 “Washington’s Best Workplaces.” VMC was named the #1 Best Workplace for 2011 in the extra large company category (500 or more local employees).
Selected from nearly 200 nominations VMC received the Gold award for receiving the highest scores from its own employees. This follows on the heels of being named the number one non-profit by Seattle Business in its annual “Washington’s 100 Best Companies to Work For,” and Modern Healthcare’s national “Top Ten Best Places to Work in Healthcare.”
“We are so honored to receive this recognition because we care deeply that our staff like where they work, that they want to come to work each day and take pride in what they do. We have long realized that a happy staff equals happy patients,” says Rich Roodman, Valley Medical Center CEO. “We’ve had a banner decade culminating in our recent affiliation with UW Medicine with whom we share a philosophy and mission to care for our community. I will always believe this starts with caring for our staff and we will strive to work harder for their benefit, so they might work happier.”
To find the best employers, PSBJ asked readers to nominate their own or other companies. Employees of the nearly 200 nominated companies answered surveys conducted by Quantum Workplaces, a recognized leader in workplace research. To reach the desired confidence level (95 percent with a +/- 5 percent margin of error), companies had to solicit employee participation based on percentages; VMC required a response rate of 15 percent to be eligible.
Survey questions were answered on a sliding scale from “Strongly disagree” to “Strongly agree,” and ranged from “I trust the leaders of this organization to set the right course,” to “I understand the company’s plans for future successes.”
The 85 companies named to PSBJ’s “Washington’s Best Workplaces 2011” were honored August 11th at a special celebration at Safeco Field.
