RENTON, WA – Last week a panel of independent reviewers from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that Valley Medical Center (VMC) has received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2011 fiscal period budget.
The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by VMC. It reflects the commitment of the Administration and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, VMC had to satisfy or surpass nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well VMC’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. Valley Medical Center is the only public hospital on the west coast to have received this award.
