Not all of the ‘Top Docs’ are in Seattle... 51 are at VMC!

Valley Medical Center (VMC) is proud to announce that 51 VMC-associated physicians representing 32 specialties have been named to annual “Top Doc” issues for 2012. Each summer, using their own unique methodologies, Seattle and Seattle Met magazines, Washington Magazine and now U.S. News & World Report online announce their picks for the best physicians in the region. The lists are valuable resources for consumers seeking medical professionals and help to narrow down the field or provide a starting point for their search.

U.S. News & World Report released its first ‘U.S. News Top Doctors’ list online in July 2012.  More than 31,000 of the top doctors in America in dozens of medical specialties were included, based on data from Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., publisher of America's Top Doctors® and other guides. Doctors listed in U.S. News Top Doctors are determined to be in the top 10% in their region. Those denoted by an asterisk are, in Castle Connolly's estimation, among the top 1% in the nation in his or her specialty. 33 VMC-associated physicians representing 23 specialties were named “Top Doctors” for 2012 (*3 of the doctors are noted as among the top 1% in the nation). See for the complete list and details on Castle Connolly’s methodology.

Seattle magazine also used healthcare research and information company Castle Connolly to compile their 12th annual ‘Top Docs’ list, released in July. Castle Connolly asked physicians in the greater Puget Sound area to nominate providers they would seek out or recommend to loved ones and this year received more than 18,000 nominations for the best physicians in 65 specialties, from pediatrics to cancer care and beyond. The 412 doctors on the 2012 list were selected by their peers as the very best in their fields. 18 VMC-associated physicians representing 15 specialties were named “Top Docs” for 2012. See the July issue of Seattle or for the full list and details.

Over 1,000 medical professionals representing 49 specialties were named in Washington Magazine’sfourth annual ‘Washington's Best Doctors 2012’ list also released in July. This list was excerpted from a national survey by “Best Doctors,” a Boston-based company founded by two Harvard University Medical School physicians. Only physicians identified by their peers in previous years as “best doctors” receive the “Best Doctors in America” survey. 8 VMC-associated physicians representing 5 specialties were named “Best Doctors” for 2012. See the summer issue of WashingtonMagazine or for the full list and details on the selection methods.

With the assistance of Seattle-based research company, Avvo, Seattle Met conducted its comprehensive, 5th annual ‘Top Doctors & Nurses 2012’ survey of Puget Sound healthcare providers across dozens of specialties to rank the highest-rated practitioners based on peer endorsements, experience, awards and several other criteria. For specialists not included in Avvo's service--advanced registered nurse practitioners--the rankings are based on nominations by doctors, nurses, physician's assistants, and other healthcare professionals. The 2012 list includes 586 practitioners in 72 specialties from King, Kitsap, Snohomish and parts of Pierce County. Doctors named to the Seattle Met list represent the top 5 percent of practitioners in their fields as of May 2012. 22 VMC-associated physicians representing 17 specialties were named “Top Doctors & Nurses” for 2012. See the August issue of Seattle Met or seattlemet.comfor the full list and information related to their selection criteria.

“We could not be more proud of the VMC-associated physicians named to these lists and applaud them for their dedication to excellence and commitment to the health of our community,” said Rich Roodman, Valley Medical Center CEO. “These top docs (and one Certified Nurse Midwife!), are the best of the best -- practitioners who have gained the respect of their peers and their patients, and they are illustrative of the level of care you find at VMC.”
