High Risk Screening & Genetic Testing

Patients who may be considered for cancer genetic services include those with:

  • Personal history of premenopausal breast cancer
  • Personal history of ovarian cancer at any age
  • Personal history of colon cancer prior to age 50
  • Family history of any of the above

Initial appointments are 60 minutes and include history gathering, pedigree analysis, counseling, and discussion of appropriate testing. If patients choose to have testing, they will have a follow up appointment for in-person results disclosure. All patients will be provided with a personalized risk assessment and recommendations for follow up.

Genetic counseling visits are nearly always covered by insurance. If a patients have concerns about their own insurance coverage, we will be happy to speak with them and provide appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes prior to their visits. At a patient’s request, any recommended genetic tests can be pre-authorized prior to being drawn.
