Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with diabetes for years, at The Diabetes Center, there is a class that is just right for you.

Living Well With Diabetes is a series of classes covering the essentials of diabetes management for healthy living. Nationally recognized by the American Diabetes Association, this program consists of 10 classroom hours, covering such topics as carbohydrate counting, target blood sugar numbers, meters, label reading, avoiding complications, cholesterol, artificial sweeteners, medications, blood sugar patterns, and much more. The series includes Survival Skills, a 4-1/2 hour introductory class offered each week, and Advanced Skills, two classes offered over 6 hours during the day or evening.

Diabetes Review is a 2-hour refresher session updating patients regarding medication, carb counting, avoiding complications, and the latest developments in treatment and diabetes management. The class is designed for those who have previously attended a diabetes management series of at least 10 hours within the past 5 years.

Advanced Carbohydrate Counting represents an individual visit with a registered nurse or registered dietitian. It teaches the latest information about the effect of food on blood sugar levels, how to calculate the approximate amount of insulin required for a given amount of food, and how to analyze blood sugar patterns.

Gestational Diabetes is taught once a week for expectant mothers. The class provides a wide range of information including how to monitor blood sugars and follow meal plan guidelines. An individual followup appointment is provided following completion of this class.

Diabetes Prevention is for patients diagnosed with pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or polycystic ovary syndrome. This 2-hour session covers the basics of diabetes prevention, hypertension, healthy eating, weight loss, cholesterol management, and exercise. Offered once a month, the class will be taught by both a registered nurse and a registered dietitian.

Valley offers diabetes education in various languages, including Russian. Fees for group sessions and individual classes are covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid (DSHS). We encourage you to contact your insurance company or Medicare to obtain the most accurate explanation of your unique benefits.
