Becoming Tobacco-Free: A No Smoking Resource From Valley Medical Center
Valley Medical Center's Becoming Tobacco-Free program focuses on developing a healthy lifestyle through exercise, healthy eating, and environmental controls in place of smoking. Offered by the Healthy Images program, it will help you:
- Learn skills to quit smoking and maintain a tobacco-free life.
- Set a plan and quit day within 7 days of the first class.
- Report achievements weekly and build on successes.
- Develop a lifestyle that includes exercise and healthy eating.
- Start with reasonable goals and improve weekly.
- Control the environments that lead to smoking.
- Learn about nicotine replacement (presented by a pharmacist).
Class Format
- 1-hour classes offered once a week
- Open to employees and community members
- A free information session to learn more about the program and ask questions
- Two program phases, both highly recommended: 6-week quit phase and 6-week maintenance phase
- Cost: $150 for the quit phase, and $100 for the maintenance phase

Nicotine Replacement
Nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges are available at the Prescription Pad Pharmacy. Valley’s pharmacists also have information about the product choices and use.
Other Programs and Resources
Washington Tobacco Quit Line is a free smoking cessation program offered by Washington State. It offers smoking cessation materials and a "Quit Coach" that you may call as much and as often as you like for individualized coaching sessions. The Quit Coach also provides information about behavior modification techniques and nicotine replacement therapy. This program sometimes offers incentives for various groups. Currently, free nicotine patches for smokers ages 18 to 29 are being offered.

American Lung Association Freedom From Smoking offers two programs. An 8-week class series focuses on the medical, emotional, and stress-management issues that help people become successful non-smokers for life. The second option is a free online program for individuals. Phone: 800.LUNG.USA

Tobacco-free Nurses is focused on helping nurses and student nurses stop smoking.
Quitnet has science-based smoking cessation resources, including quitting tips, advice from expert counselors, and other support services.
