Gait Training
Valley Medical Center's Children's Therapy offers Gait Program
Gait training incorporating body weight support treadmill training promotes neuromuscular education, improved balance, improved postural control, and results in an increased level of independence. Intensive gait training is beneficial for patients who are experiencing limitations in independence secondary to neuromuscular disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, traumatic brain injury or other neurological insult. Patients who are currently ambulatory and non-ambulatory may benefit from participation in this intensive program.
A prescription for physical therapy is required from your primary care physician. A physical therapist will perform an initial examination and design an individualized treatment plan based on current skill level and family goals. Following initial evaluation, your child will participate in 30 minute gait training sessions three times per week over a 12 week period. The physical therapist will review procedures, guidelines, and equipment with you at your initial visit.
