Volunteers in Action
A public district hospital, Valley Medical Center is a community medical center serving Renton, Kent, Covington, Newcastle, and Tukwila. We provide a broad range of healthcare services at the lowest possible cost to people living and working in our community. We can do this, in part, because of our volunteers.

Volunteers in Action (VIA), VMC's volunteer organization, includes volunteers working on various services throughout the hospital. Volunteers are an integral part of VMC's healthcare team, providing that extra touch that means so much to our patients. VIA offers a place for everyone who wants to volunteer their time and talents.

Volunteerism
Valley Medical Center averages 250 active volunteers who donate approximately 40,000 hours each year to our hospital Volunteering at Valley Medical Center is a rewarding experience. Volunteers serve the hospital, without salary, under hospital staff direction and supervision. Supplementing the services performed by paid personnel, volunteers are valuable contributors to patient care.

Because volunteers work among patients who may be exceedingly sensitive to noise, attitudes, and the special extras done on their behalf, they try at all times to maintain a high level of professional conduct and a quiet, cheerful attitude.

Volunteers contribute the most important of all ingredients—love and concern for people. Perhaps more than any other team member, as a volunteer you create an atmosphere of friendliness and goodwill with a kind word, a friendly smile.

Events
Meetings of volunteers are scheduled throughout the year. These informative meetings are a wonderful opportunity for you to get to know other volunteers and share experiences. To honor our volunteers' hours of service, VIA hosts a Recognition Dinner in the fall and an Awards Tea in the spring.

Volunteers as Ambassadors of Goodwill
Every volunteer is a goodwill ambassador for Valley Medical Center. Whether working as a greeter at the front door or delivering books and magazines to patients, volunteers represent VMC to the public.  Volunteers can be  identified by their  tan jackets and vests. All volunteers wear a VMC Security Badge for further identification.

Orientation and Training
Volunteers need to be over 18 and able to donate 4 hours per week to Valley Medical Center. As a member of our volunteer program, you will attend a scheduled orientation and training program to become familiar with your new duties.
