Valley Dividend

This program was first introduced in 1987 and was updated for district residents May 1, 2004. Recognizing that district property owners helped build part of Valley Medical Center with their taxes, the Valley Dividend was created to provide a return on their investment should they require inpatient hospitalization. Currently, the amount of any individual's dividend cannot exceed $3,000.

What can the dividend be used for?

The Valley Dividend program is available for necessary inpatient hospitalization only. It can't be applied to inpatient services, emergency care, lab work, and/or elective procedures.

How do I access it?

You can apply with the Valley Medical Center business office. A representative will access your cumulative tax payments to Public Hospital District Number 1 (Valley Medical Center).

When is the dividend applied?

Dividend credit can only be applied after all third-party payments have been received. And the credit cannot exceed the amount of property taxes paid.

Will my dividend increase?

Your dividend amount grows slightly with each year you pay taxes to the hospital district. Our intent is that your dividend will always reflect the total tax you have contributed over time.

Can I give my dividend to someone else?

Dividend credit may not be transferred. The credit applies only to resident homeowners and their immediate family members for taxes paid on their primary residence.

We no longer live in the district. Can I still access my dividend?

Yes. As long as you have a physician who admits you to Valley Medical Center for necessary inpatient hospitalization, your dividend can still be accessed for those years you lived within the district.

What if my hospital bill doesn't require my full dividend?

The remainder of your dividend is still there for you to use in the future if needed, up to a lifetime maximum of $3,000.
