As a young woman, Renata Urban, MD, wanted to work in a field that was intellectually dynamic and that allowed for the development of interpersonal relationships. "Being a physician allows for constant learning," Urban says. "Not only from my peers and colleagues, but also from my patients."

Caring for patients with gynecologic malignancies requires a diverse knowledge of medicine, surgery, and oncology. In addition, Urban says, "Caring for cancer patients requires a physician to help their patients through challenging personal times, and I feel it is a privilege to do this."

Dr. Urban has a particular interest in the perioperative care of patients with gynecologic cancers, as well as how to improve patient care. Within her lifetime, she hopes to see the individualization of the diagnosis and treatment of cancers, allowing for more diverse and effective therapeutic measures.
