Dr. Carlos A. Camal Sanchez completed his Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle. He graduated with a high achievement recognition during the 141st UW Commencement procession. He is board certified as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in Adult-Gerontology. He is a Teaching Associate in the Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery, at the UW School of Medicine.

He has extensive interdisciplinary work and clinical experience, primarily as a registered nurse in the Medical, Coronary, and Surgical ICU at Harborview Medical Center. During his graduate education program at the UW School of Nursing, he was selected for the mentorship-training program in the Medical and Surgical ICU at the UW Medical Center (UWMC). In addition to the nurse practitioner graduate program, he further received training in the diagnosis and management advanced heart failure.

Dr. Camal completed his Postdoctoral Cardiovascular Fellowship Program at the UWMC. He is the first-ever ARNP in the Cardiovascular ARNP training program, where he obtained clinical experience in depth across eleven subspecialties. Inspired by many dedicated ARNPs and surgeons, and grateful to the Vascular Surgery team who embraced him through his training and education, he has successfully launched his Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner career.

Patient Care Philosophy
As a Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner, his professional goal is to provide the best collaborative care, and therefore achieve consistently positive experiences, for patients and their families.

Teaching, Research, and Clinical Interests
He was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor for the UW School of Nursing. This appointment, together with his current position as teaching associate for the School of Medicine at the University of Washington, will allow him to continue the tradition of teaching future leaders and clinicians. He has first-authored one publication and looks forward to further dissemination of his work in peer-reviewed journals. He will continue to participate in research, and quality improvement projects through interdisciplinary teams, and to promote, and improve patients’ health. His clinical interest is vascular disorders and management.

Other Interests

Dr. Camal is an avid reader of world history and biographies. On his days off, he enjoys, family time, jogging, hiking, road biking, cooking, playing golf, and weight lifting.
