Matthew Duenas, MD, is a family medicine physician at Valley Family Medicine. He was born and raised on the tiny Pacific island of Guam and considers himself blessed to grow up in such an idyllic tropical paradise. Following completion of high school, he moved to California to attend Stanford University, where he studied biology and enjoyed playing rugby. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles where he participated in cancer research at City of Hope. He attended medical school at John A. Burns School of Medicine at University of Hawaii at Manoa.

As part of the indigenous Chamorro population of Guam, he developed interests in community health and underserved medicine. Additionally, his time spent playing rugby during high school and college fostered an interest in sports medicine, particularly concussion management and exploring it through youth mentorship. These interests and the desire to develop long-term relationships with patients and advocate for his community led him to family medicine. He is sad to be leaving beautiful Hawaii, but excited to be in the Pacific Northwest, beginning a new chapter of adventure and exploration. Outside of medicine, he enjoys drawing, being outdoors, and spending time with loved ones.
