Sherry Tillinghast, LMHC, is experienced in treating a variety of mental health issues. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Sherry has worked with adolescents, adults of all ages, couples, and families. She is licensed by the Washington State Department of Health and is a member of the American Counseling Association.

Sherry’s approach to counseling involves collaborating with patients in an effort to help them resolve issues in the healthiest way possible. She views the patient as an expert on herself/himself, and sees the counselor as a supportive facilitator. Sherry takes a pragmatic approach to counseling. This involves understanding what the patient wants, working with the patient to devise a reasonable plan, encouraging the patient to follow through with the plan, helping the patient evaluate the success of his/her efforts, and working with the patient to revise the plan, when necessary.

Sherry grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned a Masters of Science in criminal justice from University of Cincinnati, and a Masters of Science in clinical mental health counseling from Northern Kentucky University. After completing her studies, Sherry served as a counselor at the Health Resource Center in Cincinnati before relocating to southwest Virginia, where she worked as a family services specialist for the Giles County Department of Social Services and as an EAP consultant for Carilion Clinic. In her spare time, Sherry enjoys being outdoors, reading, spoiling her two cats, listening to music and podcasts, and traveling. Sherry’s favorite outdoor activity is hiking. In 2018, she completed Virginia’s Triple Crown by hiking McAfee Knob, Dragon Tooth, and Tinker Cliff. In less than two weeks of relocating to Washington, Sherry completed two hikes at Mount Rainer. Sherry is looking forward to continuing to explore the Pacific Northwest.
