    Biography

Emily Bainwol, MD, is a family medicine physician at Valley Family Medicine. She grew up in Washington, DC and attended William and Mary, where she first discovered her interest in preventive medicine and holistic care while volunteering as a health coach in a local clinic, facilitating a diabetes management and prevention program. During medical school at Eastern Virginia, she continued volunteering at the school’s free clinic, working as a Spanish interpreter and helping to run the Chronic Care Team. Additionally, she spent one summer at the Joslin Diabetes Center doing clinical research, interviewing patients about barriers to diabetes self-care, such as diet and exercise.

Dr. Bainwol feels that family medicine was the obvious path for her to continue working with others holistically to optimize their health. Her experiences have fostered her interests in addressing major gaps she has encountered in comprehensive reproductive health care and training. She couldn’t be happier at Valley Family Medicine, where she feels well supported to advocate for reproductive justice. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest, baking, and watching The Office with her two cats.

    Biography

Greta Bernier, MD, is a board-certified colon & rectal surgeon with expertise in robotic and advanced minimally invasive surgery. She is often asked why she chose this specialty. She chose colon & rectal surgery because of her desire to care for a wide spectrum of diseases, from cancer to inflammatory bowel disease to anorectal disease, and because of her commitment to advanced minimally-invasive and robotic surgery. She is always looking for ways to improve our care of patients and their outcomes, and is dedicated to continually updating her skills.

Dr. Bernier went to medical school and general surgery residency at University of Washington. She then traveled to Tampa to complete her fellowship in colon & rectal surgery at University of South Florida. She returned to the Pacific Northwest as a surgeon at University of Washington Medical Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance before bringing her practice to UW Medicine - Valley Medical Center. She is excited to be a part of this community of caring providers and wonderful patients.

In her spare time Dr. Bernier enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and two daughters, and her friends. She particularly enjoys skiing, camping, anything that involves being on the water, and rooting for our Seattle Seahawks!
