    Michelle Hillar LMHC, was born and raised in Spokane, WA.     Dr. Michael Hori has been at Valley Medical Center since 1993. His practice includes comprehensive adult heath care and the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of infectious diseases, including osteomyelitis, endocarditis, soft-tissue and wound infections, fungal and bacterial diseases, HIV and other illnesses of the immunocompromised.     Dr. Hori is a native of the Northwest, spending most of his youth in Tacoma.     Mickey Kander, PA-C, MSW, MPH, is especially interested in whole patient care that addresses more than physical ailments alone. He is a graduate of the University of Washington’s Physician Assistant Program. Before becoming a physician assistant, Mickey was a clinical social worker and public health professional. His social work experience taught him that each patient is unique, and an expert in their own care. From public health, he learned that health care is ideal when there is evidence to support what works best.

    Johnny Shum, MD, is from South Florida and received his undergraduate degree in biology from Boston University. He returned back home to attend Nova Southeastern University for his medical degree. Before medical school he volunteered abroad in rural Honduras and spent six months doing ecology research in Ecuador, which involved catching numerous Amazonian snakes, lizards, and frogs. He also spent time working in the research department at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.

    Dr. Shum has been interested in helping under-served populations since his days in medical school. This interest in health care disparities led him to spend time at several federally-qualified community health centers in and around South Florida. There, he learned how important patient advocacy, coordination of care, and cultural competency can influence patient outcomes. This interest continued throughout his time at UW Medicine | Valley Medical Center where he completed his residency in family medicine. His other professional interests include pediatrics, general family medicine, and LGBTQ+ health.

    Dr. Zhang was born and raised in mainland, China. She finished her medical school at West China University of Medical Sciences. She gained her master’s degree of science in nutrition at Ohio State University. Dr. Zhang finished her internal medicine residency training at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 2015 and completed a fellowship training in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Harbor-UCLA medical center in 2017.

    Dr. Zhang is married, with one child. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and watching movies.
