On April 22 we had a pipe elbow failure in our Emergency Department (ED) causing a significant water leak. Crews are assessing the impact and we are in the process of water abatement. Our ED is open, but several rooms are currently offline which could increase wait times. Some surgeries are also being rescheduled.
Can side protectors on prescription eyeglasses be an equivalent substitute for eye shields for our new eye protection requirement implemented on 6.24.2020? Although side protectors provide additional protection to prescription eyewear, the sizes and shapes of prescription lenses vary, providing inconsistent frontal protection from contaminants, which means exposures are still possible. Therefore, it’s critical for healthcare workers to utilize only options designed for eye protection.
