On April 22 we had a pipe elbow failure in our Emergency Department (ED) causing a significant water leak. Crews are assessing the impact and we are in the process of water abatement. Our ED is open, but several rooms are currently offline which could increase wait times. Some surgeries are also being rescheduled.
On April 8, all departments that take care of pediatric patients and use the BROSELOW code cart will switch to a pediatric code bag. This allows us to bring only one code cart when responding to pediatric emergencies as the bag will already be on the cart. Color-coded, weight-based, emergency resuscitation equipment and medication dosing will still be used and will be stored in this bag. In each color-coded compartment of the pediatric code bag you will find an oxygen delivery kit, a respiratory support kit and one or two laryngoscopes.
If you take care of pediatric patients on your unit, please look for an education/training plan that will allow you to become familiar with the new code bag and practice using it.
