Infectious Diseases Services Alert

2/22/2024
Author: Mike Hori, MD, Infectious Disease Clinic

Service Availability Alert: The Infectious Diseases service will be working with reduced staff for the next 6 months.

Inpatient Services: We aim to maintain our usual level of service for inpatients.

Ambulatory Services Impact: Expect longer wait times for routine consultations and we cannot guarantee timely availability for urgent consultations.

Urgent Consults Guidance:

  • For acute microbial illnesses consider urgent care or the ED for initial evaluation, information gathering, stabilization, and possible follow-up with Infectious Diseases (ID).
  • For immediate treatment needs (e.g., managing latent TB for starting an immunocompromising drug or MRSA decolonization):
    • ID e-consults are recommended for treatment decisions on recognizable issues, and typically have quick turnaround times on weekdays.
    • We're implementing a waiting list for cancellations to accommodate patients as quickly as possible.

Non-Urgent Consults Guidance:

  • Utilize e-consults for non-urgent matters.
  • Again, we're implementing a waiting list for cancellations to accommodate patients as quickly as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience and potential delays this may cause.
