The Desimone Levee on the Green River failed and is under repair. The hospital is above the flood zone and currently in no danger of flooding. We evacuated our Time Square and Kent Station Clinics and our Lind Avenue locations. Several locations are experiencing staffing issues due to severe traffic impacts. Impacted patients are being contacted to reschedule appointments. Please be safe, do not drive or walk through standing water, and call 9-1-1 if you need emergency evacuation assistance.

Cultural Humility for Healthcare Professionals

4/12/2024
Author: EDI Committee

National Diversity Month is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and traditions that enrich our community. As healthcare professionals, honoring the diverse identities our patients hold is crucial to the care we provide. This practice is often referred to as cultural humility. Practicing cultural humility is crucial in healthcare because it fosters a more inclusive, respectful, and patient-centered approach to care, ultimately leading to better health outcomes and a more equitable healthcare system.

We encourage you to watch this 20 minute presentation led by Kawai Kaneali’i, Community Health & Wellness Advocate. In it, she explores what it means to practice with cultural humility and brings to the forefront crucial conversations about implicit biases and healthcare inequities, and how they affect patient care. This presentation invites us to reevaluate our perspectives, challenge our assumptions, and embark on a lifelong journey of learning, respect, and resilience in our approach to healthcare and beyond.
