    Greta Bernier, MD, is a board-certified colon & rectal surgeon with expertise in robotic and advanced minimally invasive surgery. She is often asked why she chose this specialty. She chose colon & rectal surgery because of her desire to care for a wide spectrum of diseases, from cancer to inflammatory bowel disease to anorectal disease, and because of her commitment to advanced minimally-invasive and robotic surgery. She is always looking for ways to improve our care of patients and their outcomes, and is dedicated to continually updating her skills.

    Dr. Bernier went to medical school and general surgery residency at University of Washington. She then traveled to Tampa to complete her fellowship in colon & rectal surgery at University of South Florida. She returned to the Pacific Northwest as a surgeon at University of Washington Medical Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance before bringing her practice to UW Medicine - Valley Medical Center. She is excited to be a part of this community of caring providers and wonderful patients.

    In her spare time Dr. Bernier enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and two daughters, and her friends. She particularly enjoys skiing, camping, anything that involves being on the water, and rooting for our Seattle Seahawks!

    Biography

    Michael Burke, MD, FACS received his medical degree from Creighton University. His General Surgery training was completed at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Northwestern University Affiliated Hospitals in Chicago. He is a Board Certified surgeon and a Fellow of American College of Surgeons. He is a member of Seattle Surgical Society and American College of Phlebology. Dr. Burke has practiced at Valley Medical Center since 1984 and served numerous terms as Chief of Surgery at VMC. He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery and is proficient with the da Vinci robot. In 2010, Seattle Metropolitan Magazine named Dr. Burke a Top Doc.

    Biography

    Rahul Desai, MD, provides urologic care for general and complex conditions. He offers surgical, robotic, and non-invasive procedures including radical prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, endoscopic stone surgery, ureteroscopy, percutaneous stone removal, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), and transurethral prostate surgery (TUVP, TURP).

    Dr. Desai earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and completed his residency in urology at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He received fellowship training in endo-urology, laparoscopy and robotic surgery at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC, and is board certified by the American Board of Urology. Prior to practicing at UW Medicine Valley Medical Center, Dr. Desai was featured as one of the, “Top Doctors 2016,” in Seattle Met’s annual list of best health practitioners in the Seattle area and a "Top Urologist 2019" in Milwaukee in the Top Doctors list of Wisconsin Magazine. Dr. Desai has published several articles and book chapters and reviews articles for the Journal of Endourology.

    Susan Dong, MD, is a urologist who enjoys working with patients to improve their quality of life.     Biography

    In private practice in Renton since 1996, Dr. Lau transitioned to Southlake Clinic in 2013 before joining Valley Medical Center in 2017.     Biography

    Christian Quintero, MD, is a board-certified urogynecologist with special interest in minimally-invasive gynecology as well as complex urogynecological conditions. Dr. Quintero’s main interests are robotic-assisted laparoscopy and vaginal reconstructive surgery as well as office-based procedures.

    Among the conditions that Dr. Quintero treats are abnormal vaginal bleeding, uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, endometriosis, and symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse (bladder, rectal or uterine descent). He also specializes in bladder issues including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and painful bladder disorders. Additionally, he treats patients with history of obstetric trauma with labial, vagina, or perineal lacerations requiring surgical repairs.

    “Dr. Q’s” goal is to provide holistic care and improve the quality of life of women with complex gynecological conditions to achieve a healthy and fulfilling live. He is interested in LGBTQ health and treating transgender patients.

    Dr. Quintero grew up in Colombia, South America and received his medical degree from Pontificia Javeriana University in Bogota Colombia. He later moved to the US where he completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology from Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Quintero holds board certification in OB/GYN and female pelvic medicine, and in reconstructive surgery. He also completed an MBA from University of Nevada School of Business.     My wife Jennifer and I enjoy living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with our three children. We are active and love the outdoors - hiking throughout the Northwest, spending time on Lake Washington whenever we can, and snowboarding here and in Colorado with Jennifer's family. I also enjoy playing and watching most sports, including basketball and tennis, and can regularly be found in basketball league or pick-up games.

    Biography

    A native of the midwest, Ron Swensen, MD, fell in love with the Pacific Northwest during a visit to Seattle while in college. He earned his medical degree degree from Loma Linda University and completed a Family Medicine Internship at the University of Wisconsin. He completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Stanford and a Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at Penn State (Hershey), before receiving Board Certification in 1998.

    Dr. Swensen's career has included academic positions in Ob/Gyn Departments at Stanford, Loma Linda and the University of Washington, where he estimates that he has participated in training over 160 Ob/Gyn specialist physicians and many more medical students. Dr. Swensen also served as the Chairman of the Ob/Gyn Department at Loma Linda University. Under his leadership, the department achieved national ranking by US News and World Report. Dr. Swensen subsequently joined Valley Medical Center as Medical Director for Oncology Services.

    Dr. Swensen's practice includes surgery, chemotherapy and long-terrm management of known or suspected cancer of the female reproductive tract. He is trained in robotic and laparoscopic surgical procedures.

    • Management of uterine cancers including robotic hysterectomy, BSO and node dissection for endometrial cancer, robotic radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer and treatment of pre-invasive disease
    • Management of ovarian masses including ovarian cancer debulking and staging and, surgery for suspicious adnexal masses, and management of recurrent disease

    Heather Wheeler, MD, joined Valley Medical Center in 2012 and is the Medical Director of General and Colorectal Surgery. Her surgical practice includes all aspects of general surgery, with special interests in minimally invasive (robotic) surgery and breast surgery. Dr. Wheeler earned her bachelor's degree from Duke University and her medical degree from University of Arizona. She completed her general surgery residency at University of Washington. Dr. Wheeler is board-certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
