Provider Bio

Katherine Leah Ashwell, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C, provides post-stroke follow-up and secondary prevention care for adult patients recovering from ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA). She focuses on understanding each patient’s stroke mechanism and building prevention plans that are both evidence-based and realistic. With a background in emergency and trauma nursing and experience as a Stroke Program Coordinator, Katherine brings a structured, thoughtful approach to neurologic assessment and long-term risk reduction. She values caring for the diverse communities of South King County and prioritizes clear communication, culturally responsive care, and collaboration with patients and families.

Katherine earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue University and is board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Prior to advanced practice, she worked extensively in emergency and acute care settings and participated in stroke quality and Joint Commission initiatives. She believes secondary prevention is most effective when patients understand the “why” behind their care and feel supported in carrying it out.

Outside of work, Katherine enjoys fitness training, exploring healthcare innovation and artificial intelligence, traveling, and spending time with family and her pets.
