The Desimone Levee on the Green River failed and is under repair. The hospital is above the flood zone and currently in no danger of flooding. We evacuated our Time Square and Kent Station Clinics and our Lind Avenue locations. Several locations are experiencing staffing issues due to severe traffic impacts. Impacted patients are being contacted to reschedule appointments. Please be safe, do not drive or walk through standing water, and call 9-1-1 if you need emergency evacuation assistance.

Brett builds rockets for a living, but it only took a fall of several feet from a step ladder to put his dream career on hold. Brett is an active aerospace mechanic who loves home projects. One day while installing a light fixture at home, Brett slipped off a ladder, shattering the bones in his forearm and severely dislocating his elbow. After two surgeries and four days at Valley Medical Center, Brett faced the possibility of never regaining full function of his arm.
Brett’s occupational therapy (OT) began in the hospital where his therapist taught him exercises to decrease the pain and swelling in his arm. In preparation for his discharge home, Brett also learned daily living skills for cooking, dressing and bathing independently.
After leaving the Valley Medical Center, Brett continued his OT at the Outpatient Hand Therapy clinic, part of Valley’s Outpatient Therapy Services. His therapy program included progressive splinting, range of motion exercises, wound care, strengthening and coordination training. At first Brett found it hard just to bend his elbow, make a fist or hold a fork. Just 16 weeks after his injury, Brett had nearly full use of his arm (with full function anticipated) and is able to again do things in life that bring him joy. He is back to work full time and is already busy with home projects. He has, however, promised to be more careful on ladders.
