Despite their best efforts, UW Medicine has not yet been able to reach fair and sustainable agreements with Aetna that ensure continued access to care and are in the best interests of patients. Effective June 1, 2025, UW Medicine’s contracts with Aetna for Medicare Advantage and Commercial services have expired and we are now out of network with Aetna. Hospitalists are physicians and advance practice providers whose primary focus is the delivery of comprehensive medical care to hospitalized patients. This focused practice of hospital medicine is one of the fastest growing medical specialties, with over 60,000 hospitalists nationwide.

Valley Medical Center’s team of hospitalists are experts at delivering the most effective and efficient care to manage both common illnesses and complex medical problems.  They are available onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week to oversee each patient’s course through the hospital and immediately respond to any changes in condition. They are also there to answer questions and discuss issues with patients and their designated family members.

As care team leaders, hospitalists coordinate inpatient care and ensure that the patient's regular healthcare provider is informed about their progress and treatment plan. The patient’s provider will also receive detailed communication upon discharge and will oversee the patient’s care after that point.

Because of their singular focus on hospitalized patients, hospitalists have an exceptional understanding of hospital systems and are instrumental in improving patient safety and increasing efficiency and quality of care.
