Volunteers in Action (VIA)
Valley Medical Center is a 321-bed community hospital and clinic network serving South King County. We provide a broad range of healthcare services at the lowest possible cost to people living and working in our community. We can do this, in part, because of our volunteers.
We have 250 active volunteers who donate approximately 40,000 hours each year in many different departments and roles throughout the organization. Supplementing the services performed by paid staff, volunteers are an integral part of our healthcare team and valuable contributors who provide special added touches that make a patient's stay more comfortable.
Our volunteers are goodwill ambassadors, spreading hope and cheer and providing important assistance for our visitors. Whether serving as a greeter at the Information Desk or escorting visitors or becoming a clinical volunteer in an area like the Emergency Department, volunteers are a treasured part of our team. Volunteers contribute the most important of all ingredients—love and concern for people.
Volunteer meetings and events are scheduled throughout the year and are a great opportunity to get to know other volunteers and share experiences. To honor hours of service and recognize VIA's remarkable contributions, we host a Recognition Lunch in the fall and an Awards Tea in the spring.
Orientation & Training
Volunteers must be 18 or older and able to serve 4 hours per week for a minimum of 6-months. A background check, TB test and flu shot are required. Clinical volunteers must also show proof of immunizations. We provide orientation and training to help you become familiar with your new role, surroundings and colleagues.
For non-clinical volunteers, please complete an online volunteer application form.
